Around 2100 hours on Wednesday July 12th 2017, members were sitting around the watch desk just after completing station clean up. A call went out over the UMPD radio for a “large turtle” in the middle of a parking lot on campus. Without hesitation, members quickly proceeded in Engine 812. Engine 812 arrived prior to UMPD to find a large American alligator snapping turtle in the middle of a parking lot. FF/EMT McDonald assisted the snapper to its new home, about 100ft away. UMPD advised that they were thankful for the fire department’s response, and all parties went available.
